Thanks For Making High Fives For Suicide Prevention A Success!

Thanks to everyone who joined us for High Fives For Suicide Prevention at the Salem Fair, June 30 - July 1!

New Country 107.9 YYD's Scott Stevens stood outside the fair entrance for 24 hours receiving High Fives from fair goers to raise awareness for suicide prevention, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, and this fall's Out of the Darkness Walks in Roanoke, Lynchburg and the New River Valley.

Here's what Scott had to say after getting a good night's rest:

Well after just over 12 hours sleep, I am just about awake enough to type and send this thank you to everyone involved in the “High Fives For Suicide Prevention!”

After spending a full non-stop 24-hour period at the Salem Fair, we had a grand total of 5,621 “High Fives” for suicide prevention!

More importantly, we handed out hundreds of cards about the upcoming Out of the Darkness Walks going in and around our listening area, and had the chance to talk to and even give a hug to several people who have been affected by suicide and/or have suicidal ideations.

I know our little event has made a difference in the lives of many people and that we will see many of their faces at our support events in the future.

Thanks to the AFSP board members who made the trip! I appreciate your being a part of this effort that started with just about 6 to 8 people back in 2018 with me and the Lynchburg team!

Thank you to the many volunteers from our area Out of the Darkness Walks in Lynchburg, the Roanoke/Salem Walk, and even a couple enthusiastic team members from the New River Valley Walk who just had their first event last fall!

Also big thanks to my local team at iHeartRadio Roanoke/Lynchburg.

Also thanks to the team at the Salem Fair/Salem Civic Center for encouraging/allowing us the opportunity to be at the country’s largest free gate fair!

And a big THANKS! to Scott Stevens for his commitment and determination to help bring awareness to the cause of suicide prevention and to the work of the AFSP!

We hope to do it again next year!
