TIDYING YOUR WORKSPACE SPARKS JOY

How do you feel about your current workspace setup? Getting it just the way you want it can be tricky, and it takes two years to get it just perfect, according to new research.

Ahead of Get Organized Day on Friday (April 26th), a new poll of 2-thousand U.S. office workers reveals how our workspaces affect productivity and what it takes to have the perfect one.

  • It finds that only 40% are “very satisfied” with their current workspace.
  • Those who aren’t blame it on not having enough space (48%), back pain from their chair (34%) and it being too messy (32%).
  • But 79% take pride in their workspace setup and 86% feel it has an impact on their happiness.
  • When their area is organized, 83% feel more productive, and if it was even more organized, they think it could boost their productivity by 38%.
  • Respondents feel the most organized in their work (61%) and the least organized in their mental health (27%).
  • Compared to other aspects of their life, 77% say their workspace is the most organized.
  • Over the last five years, people have tried a lot of trends to keep them organized, including decluttering their digital space (35%), minimalism (32%), using space-saving or multi-functional products (27%), and using printed labels (24%).
  • As a result, 83% feel they’re organizational skills are better.
  • Three-quarters of respondents say they’d even consider sharing their workspace with a daytime talk show host. The top picks include Drew Barrymore (21%), Kelly Ckarkson (19%) and Jennifer Hudson (15%).

As far as cleaning at home...

Struggling to de-clutter your home? Try the 12-12-12 method. Developed by Joshua Becker of Becoming Minimalist, here's how to employ the simple concept: Find 12 things to throw away, 12 things to donate, and 12 things to be put away where they actually go. Repeat as needed.

Scott's Thoughts:

  • I’d love to have Drew Barrymore as my celeb co-worker, but I don’t think it would be good for our productivity!
  • I keep my work office and studio pretty neat. But my HOME studio and office is a wreck!
  • I do get a feeling of comfort after cleaning. Just hard to get started sometimes.
