THIS IS WHAT MOMS REALLY WANT FOR MOTHER’S DAY

Mother’s Day (Sunday, May 12th) is less than two weeks away and new research from Yelp looks into what moms really want this year. According to the survey of 25-hundred adults, moms really cherish family time for Mother’s Day, as 60% of mothers want to be surrounded by family more than anything else. That’s especially true for baby boomers, with 68% of them saying family time is their favorite way to celebrate.

The poll also finds:

  • Dining out on Mother’s Day is a top choice for 48% of moms, especially for brunch, as 25% say it’s the preferred meal to enjoy out on the holiday.
  • While most moms want to spend time with their family on Mother’s Day, 15% actually want the opposite - some alone time.
  • For 19% of millennial moms, taking some time for themselves is their top preference for Mother’s Day and 17% of Gen X moms feel the same.
  • A quarter of millennial mothers would like an escape on Mother’s Day, like a short trip or getaway (14%) or doing outdoor activities (8%). And 9% of millennial mothers would actually enjoy a day off from the mom gig.
  • About a third (32%) of all moms would like to be treated to a spotless house without having to lift a finger on Mother’s Day.
  • In fact, a clean house is at the top of the wish list for 39% of millennial moms, 30% of Gen Xers and 28% of baby boomers.
  • A Mother’s Day without having to do chores or responsibilities would make 21% of millennial mothers and 19% of Gen X moms really happy. Nearly half (44%) of them say a personal chef would be a top choice for that chore-free day.
  • Some moms would like to be pampered, including 30% of millennial moms, 29% of Gen X moms and 23% of baby boomer moms, who want a spa day or beauty treatment for Mother’s Day.
  • Flowers are the most popular gift this year, with 29% planning to give Mother’s Day flowers.
  • Others plan to give a personalized gift (24%), jewelry or fashion accessories (21%) and a family outing (21%).

Speaking of gifts for mom...

Surprise Mom On Mother’s Day With A Message On A Potato

Nothing says, “I love you, Mom,” like the gift of…the potato. Back in 2015, Alex Craig was scouring the internet and stumbled across a “stamped potato.” From there, an entrepreneurial spark was ignited, and Potato Parcel was born. Through the site, you can choose a specific kind of spud, and create a message of up to 130 characters to have printed on it…or you could opt to have a full-color photo emblazoned on it. While it might sound ridiculous to some, Potato Parcel posted a net worth of $1.75 million in 2023, so the joke’s on you, spud-haters.

Scott's Thoughts:

  • Wait, moms are allowed to ask for alone time for Mother’s Day?
  • Nice dinner out with mom and a couple nice flowering plants is what most Mother's Days are with my mom.
  • Don't forget those pet moms too!
